WRITING MOOD BOARD

Wednesday, Sept. 14: Make a mood board! Are you brainstorming a room re-do, a capsule wardrobe, or already planning for the holidays? Show us your ideas!

Writing is my passion. I love connecting with readers, learning and growing in my faith and glorifying God through each season of my life through my words and writing about the joyous times and overcoming life's hardships. However, writers block is real folks and I have experienced it many, many times. This mood board is for writing inspiration. it is a combination of what helps me when I just cannot find the right words.

My hope is that these techniques may help you when you can't seem to shake writer's block.

Enjoy!

Happiness is a cup of coffee & A good book. I am a firm believer that the more you read, the better of a writer you will be. You eventually learn your own voice for writing, your personal style and writing techniques. I especially love reading inspirational books and/or articles that leave me feeling encouraged as a person which then results in compassionate words put together here on this blog. :) -- A good cup of coffee is always guaranteed to help with the writing process as well. Approximately 98% of my blog posts have been written with a cup of coffee right next to me. I'm not sure what it is but it's what feels comfortable and gets me in that writing mood.

Journal + Bible. Reading the Bible always brings inspiration for where I want my post to lead and it sets my heart in the right place. Handwriting in a journal of any sort gets the creativity flowing as well. I am much faster with typing than I am with handwriting which is one reason why I love blogging so much. However, it's always fun to go back and read handwritten journal entries.

Prayer. Something I want to start incorporating more in not only my daily life but prior to writing or posting a blog entry is prayer. Even if it's a simple prayer, I want my words to glorify God. For the readers to stop by the blog and leave feeling encouraged. That the meaning of writing is for a deeper purpose and is true to my heart.

Music. More than having coffee by my side when I write, music is present as well. Typically it's either worship or acoustic versions of songs that really help string my words together on posts. Occasionally I will have a hip hop song playing in the background to really get the excitement going. You can check out some of my Spotify playlists here. Also, here are some of my favorite writing stations on Pandora if you want to have a listen: Coffee Shop Soundtrack (Acoustic Mix), Jesus Culture, Hip Hop Road Trip Radio, Rend Collective Experiment Radio.

Quotes + Verses. Who doesn't love a good quote or bible verse that provides comfort and peace? "If you don't see the book you want on the shelf, write it." If God is for us who can be against us? I love reading verses like this because they remind me how great and mighty a God that I call upon. I am reminded of His great love for me and that I am unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And for those reasons, I feel called to write for Him and spread His love to my lovely readers.

Fresh flowers. Sometimes, it's the littlest things in life that make the biggest difference. Fresh flowers brighten up your space and add so much joy to a room. Wildflowers are my absolute favorite. I suggest adding these to your writing space and you just might be surprised at the difference a beautifully decorated space will make.

  1. I love fresh flowers too! I don't get them as often as I would like, but when I have them they always make me feel happy :)

    1. Amen! Honestly, I just get the $5 bouquet from Kroger once a week or so and they typically last a week and a half. :)
