Inspiration often comes from unplanned and overlooked places. Us Indiana folk had the first snowfall of the season last night and somehow I managed to feel nostalgic and inspired by it. And then I found myself listening to classic Bing Crosby Christmas songs and acoustic Ed Sheeran + random coffee shop acoustics. Because why not, right? The setting fit so perfectly.

I then looked up where in the Bible it talks about snow, out of curiosity. I was led to Proverbs 31:20-21 and absolutely loved the context behind it. It helped me to remember where my strength, hope and confidence all come from and my love for mission work.

She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

Sincerity, humility, generosity are all beautiful things. It's an interesting idea that winter and the holiday season coincide considering it is a time when giving is emphasized and grieving loved ones is heightened a little more. The literal snow coming down will not inhibit a person or persons from reaching out a hand of service for someone in need. If anything, the snow or perhaps a bump in the road of life creates no fear for we know we are clothed in confidence that we are loved by our Lord and Savior.

A simple snowfall embodies a time of change and new opportunities. I find peace knowing that we are not meant to be stagnant and that with each season we have the opportunity to grow closer to Him, closer to being set free in His name. How beautiful is that? He has incredible adventures lined up for each one of us. I am excited to see His plans come alive right before me and to take the path of righteousness, even if there are snowy days along the way. His mercies are new each day.

Who knew a simple Indiana snowfall could create deep thoughts about life. :)

Love you all from the bottom of my heart.

  1. This is beautiful! Love that this is what snow made you think about it. It looks so pretty! Waiting for our first true snow here in Ohio (we had some one day but it didn't last long or even stick). I just recently read a different bible verse relating to snow- Isaiah 55:10-11. Have a great day :)

    1. Thank you for sharing! I just looked those verses up and LOVE their meaning. His word will accomplish according to His purpose. So beautiful. Hope you had a great day as well. I am sure it won't be long before you get some snow that sticks over there in Ohio! :)

  2. This is really pretty. Lately one of my favourite ways to journal and interact with the Bible is by searching for references for one particular word that is on my mind/heart that day. It's lead me to some pretty awesome verses.

    1. I love that Donna! It's such a great way to dive in and relate to what you're reading. It's also fun to simply blindly open your Bible and see what verse(s) you end up reading!
